Yesterday, Apple announced a partnership with the enterprise giant SAP to expand iOS deep into the enterprise. As part of the partnership, both the companies will work together to create Apps for iPhone and iPad using SAP HANA cloud platform.
This partnership will revolutionise how enterprise customers use iPhone and iPad as it will provide apps designed for business customers using SAP HANA platform. This partnership will also provide a new software development kit (SDK) to 2.5million SAP developers to create new apps for iOS. Not only this, but the partnership also offers to train academy for developers and customers so that they can create apps easily.
Apple’s CEO Tim Cook, on this occasion, said that “This partnership will transform how iPhone and iPad are used in the enterprise by bringing together the innovation and security of iOS with SAP’s deep expertise in business software. As the leader in enterprise software and with 76% of business transactions touching an SAP system, SAP is the ideal partner to help us truly transform how companies around the world are run on iPhone and iPad. Through the new SDK, we are empowering SAP’s more than 2.5 million developers to build powerful native apps that fully leverage SAP HANA Cloud Platform and tap into the incredible capabilities that only iOS devices can deliver.”
With this partnership, both the companies want to provide a new SAP HANA platform which is to be specifically designed for the iOS. This will enable developers and customers to build their enterprise apps on iOS according to the needs. The companies plan on combining SAP HANA with SAP S / 4 HANA and iOS while taking advantage of the Apple’s features like Touch ID, Location services, and Notifications.

As part of the partnership, SAP will make 100 native apps for Apple’s iOS using SAP HANA platform. These native apps will be done with Apple’s Swift programming language. These apps will be created for critical business operations to help professionals in different industries. Using SAP’s Platform, iPhone and iPad are finally going to get some enterprise options.
The apps and Software Development Kit (SDK) are not available yet, but they will be in the last quarter of 2016. “Many of the apps are being built and tested, but they are not ready to ship,” said Steve Lucas, president for SAP’s Digital Enterprise Platform.
